Steeple Run subdivision to tap into Lake Michigan water

Lake Michigan water will soon begin flowing into a neighborhood just over Naperville’s eastern edge.
The Steeple Run subdivision, which now is served by well water, could see an uptick in water main breaks while its sourcing is converted to the lake.
Nick Kottmeyer, superintendent for the DuPage County Public Works Department, said the cooler temperature of lake water may cause that to happen.
“As the system adjusts to the changes in temperatures and pressures, the water main breaks will subside to average levels,” Kottmeyer said in a news release.
Jim Healy, a Naperville resident and chairman of the public works committee, said the conversion will be completed during November and it will bring improvements in water quality and pressure. It also will eliminate the need to soften water, Healy said.
The project is different from the Steeple Run Watershed Project, which also is nearly finished. That undertaking, being overseen by the city, is designed to minimize the damage from heavy rainstorms to Huffman Street, just inside the city’s eastern border.
