Butterfield Road construction work to continue into the spring

Despite hopes that construction work on Butterfield Road would be completed soon, the work will continue into the spring.
However, some portions of the project will be done within the next month.
Contractors for the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Butterfield Road widening project continue working on the intersection of Naperville Road and Butterfield Road in order to restore all lanes of Naperville Road before the end of this construction season.
The contractor has shifted northbound traffic to the new lanes on the east side of Naperville Road. Southbound traffic will remain in the existing lanes on the west side. While crews perform work on the island between northbound and southbound traffic, the contractor will need to keep one of the southbound lanes on Naperville Road closed.
Other work under way focuses on improving overall traffic flow around the Danada shopping entrances and the intersection of Naperville Road and Butterfield Road. Electricians are installing wiring for traffic signal loop detectors, which will coordinate the timing for traffic lights between the Danada shopping entrances and the intersection of Naperville Road and Butterfield Road. This will improve traffic flow during the peak times and ease the severe congestion that is currently occurring, IDOT officials said.
IDOT anticipates this work will be completed by the end of November.
K-Five Construction will continue placing asphalt on the remaining sections of Naperville Road, Wiesbrook Road and the entrance to Legends Drive. This work will eliminate the drop-offs between segments of pavement and allow traffic to move faster through the intersection.
Some published reports have anticipated this entire project will be completed this year. However, representatives associated with this project have stated the project will extend into the spring of 2013. While the contractor is working to complete major portions of the project, weather is a key component in attaining this goal, IDOT officials said.
The current schedule has K-Five Construction placing surface on all north-south streets between the end of November and mid-December. During this time, crews also will work on other items including landscaping, sidewalk installation, and placement of the permanent street and traffic light fixtures. As long as there is no snow, this work should continue through December.
IDOT plans for contractors to pave Butterfield Road with the final surface and complete other items not completed this season in the spring of 2013.
