A man from Naperville’s north side who is awaiting trial on felony child pornography charges is now considered to be a fugitive from justice.

Francisco Villegas, 29, failed to appear Oct. 18 or Nov. 28 for scheduled, pretrial hearings in DuPage County Circuit Court in Wheaton. His case has since been designated “inactive.”

Villegas was arrested about 9 a.m. Aug. 9 in his apartment on the 1000 block of Heritage Hill Drive. A grand jury later indicted him on four felony counts of aggravated possession of child pornography in the form of films or photographs.

A Naperville police spokesman earlier this year said members of the department’s High Tech Computer Crimes Unit in late April began investigating Villegas, whom they suspected of downloading or trading pornographic images of children.

Detectives obtained a search warrant and later seized a computer from Villegas’ home, the spokesman said. More than 100 pornographic images of children were allegedly gleaned from the computer, all of which “involved children as young as the age of seven,” the spokesman said.

Police Sgt. Lou Cammiso on Wednesday confirmed a warrant has been issued for Villegas’ arrest. Cammiso said authorities do not know whether Villegas is still in the Naperville area, has moved elsewhere or has fled the country.
