Two women who fought with Naperville police last summer during a brawl that left a man hospitalized have been sentenced for their roles in that incident.
Daisy Acosta, 27, and Karina Acosta, 23, pleaded guilty to charges of resisting or obstructing a police officer during the Aug. 26 disturbance in the parking deck at Chicago Avenue and Washington Street.
DuPage County Circuit Court Judge Kathryn E. Creswell on Dec. 20 sentenced Karina Acosta and Daisy Acosta to eight days and four days, respectively, in DuPage County Jail.
Creswell also ordered both women to serve 10 days in the Sheriff’s Work Alternative Program. Records showed Creswell also placed them on 18 months of conditional discharge.
Charges of aggravated battery were dismissed in exchange for the women’s pleas.
The two Acostas live at separate addresses in Aurora.
Naperville police in August said the women and a man were seen about 2 a.m., damaging vehicles on the ground floor of the parking deck. That apparently touched off a fight between the man and a 36-year-old man from Aurora, police said.
The Aurora man suffered a serious head injury, reportedly a skull fracture, during the melee. He underwent extensive treatment at Edward Hospital in Naperville.
Police ultimately identified the other man but never arrested him.
Daisy Acosta and Karina Acosta struggled with the police officers who were sent to quell the disturbance.
The officers were not seriously injured.
Karina Acosta still faces trial on a misdemeanor count of criminal damage to property. She is scheduled to appear Jan. 23 in court to answer that charge.
