Naperville police are appealing to the public for help in solving two possibly related robberies of a service station over an eight-day period.

A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered by Naperville Crime Stoppers for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the robber or robbers who held up the Mobil station at 1304 Plainfield-Naperville Road, in the central part of the city.

The most recent robbery occurred just before 5 a.m. Wednesday, said Cmdr. Brian Cunningham, supervisor of the police department’s investigations unit.

Cunningham said an on-duty clerk told police a man entered the station and demanded money from the cash register. The clerk complied, and the man left the store with an undisclosed amount of money.

“The clerk indicated the suspect matched the description of the person who robbed the same gas station” at about 3 a.m. Dec. 25, Cunningham said in a release. “During that robbery, the suspect displayed a handgun.”

Cunningham said the robber in both cases was described as a black man standing approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing between 230 and 250 pounds. He had black hair, brown eyes, a slight mustache and freckles on his nose and cheeks.

The suspect in the Dec. 25 holdup also wore a mask and brandished a black, semiautomatic handgun, according to an earlier police statement. The robber in that case wore an Air Jordan jacket and gray or black wind pants.

Witnesses to either incident or those who believe they have information about the robber were asked to call Naperville Crime Stoppers at 630-420-6006. Callers can remain anonymous.
