Naperville Fire Department investigators are continuing to seek the cause of a Wednesday afternoon blaze that did an estimated $5,000 damage to a home on the city’s west side.

No one was injured in the fire that erupted about 2:27 p.m. in an exterior wall of the two-story house at 122 Stratford Court, in the Will-O-Way neighborhood.

Twenty-four firefighters were sent to the scene in three fire engines, two ladder trucks, two ambulances and four other vehicles, Division Fire Chief Mark Ziemnik said. Naperville police confirmed all of the occupants had gotten out of the home safely prior to the arrival of firefighters, Ziemnik said Wednesday in a release.

The first firefighters arrived at 2:31 p.m. to find a small blaze at the northwest corner of the attached garage that Ziemnik said had spread slightly into the attic. Firefighters extinguished it within a few minutes using a hose line, he said.

Fire Capt. Rick Zakaras said at the scene a neighbor who lives behind the house used a fire extinguisher to help quell some of the flames prior to firefighters’ arrival.

Damage to the outer wall of the garage came to less than $5,000, Zakaras said. The house was deemed habitable, and the owners were allowed back inside following a damage inspection.

Police officers and employees of the city’s Transportation, Engineering and Development Business Group assisted firefighters at the scene. Ziemnik said the cause of the blaze is being determined by the city’s Fire Investigation Team.
