Veteran pop singer Rick Springfield will play at this year’s Ribfest in Naperville.

The Exchange Club of Naperville and the 2013 Ribfest Committee announced the addition to the fest’s musical lineup Friday. Springfield will be headlining on the Ribfest Navistar Stage on July 6.

The 26th Ribfest will be held from July 3 to 7 in Knoch Park in Naperville. Ribfest consists of family activities throughout the event, rib vendors from across the country and music. All the proceeds from Ribfest go to support the elimination of child abuse and domestic violence.

Marty Walker, Ribfest 2013 chairman, said the addition of Springfield should be a hit.

“We are excited to include Rick Springfield to the lineup for Ribfest this year,” he said. “I know that there will be a many happy females in the crowd to see Rick Springfield giving his rendition of ‘Jessie’s Girl.’”

Rick Springfield has always insisted his first love is music, a passion he’s harbored since first picking up the guitar at the age of 12 in his native Australia.

Springfield has sold 25 million albums and had had 17 top 40 hits, including “Don’t Talk to Strangers,” “An Affair of the Heart,” “I’ve Done Everything for You,” “Love Somebody” and “Human Touch,” as well as a 1981 Grammy for Best Male Rock Vocal win for his No. 1 hit single “Jessie’s Girl.”

Springfield is the second musical announcement for Ribfest 2013 entertainment. STYX will be the opening act on July 3.

Tickets will go on sale in the spring at www.ribfest.net. The site is currently under construction.
