An Aurora woman is dead after the vehicle she was driving left I-88 and landed in a retention pond near Eola Road on Aurora’s far northeast side Saturday night.

Illinois State Police have identified the woman as 20-year-old Emroy Sepulveda of the 600 block of View Street.

Her official time of death was 3:11 a.m., according to the DuPage County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner’s office did not have an official cause of death yet. An autopsy will be conducted Monday.

There also were three passengers in the vehicle -- Irene M. Affatati, 48, of North Aurora, and two juveniles -- who were rescued and taken to area hospitals. No updates were available on the extent of their injuries.

At 7:26 p.m. Saturday, state police responded to a report of a vehicle that had verved off I-88 near Eola Road and was submerged in a retention pond. The vehicle was pulled from the pond shortly thereafter, according the police.

Emergency search crews pulled Sepulveda’s body from the water at 2:57 a.m. Sunday, police said.

According to Master Sergeant Carlos of the Illinois State Police, the cause of the crash is still unknown. No other vehicles were believed to be involved in the accident.
