In today’s world, it’s increasingly difficult for couples to make their marriages a priority. With this in mind, area churches have formed an inter-parish marriage enrichment team with the objective of helping good marriages become or remain great marriages.
On Saturday, the team will sponsor “Passion and Purpose for Marriage” at St. Margaret Mary Parish in Naperville.
The community parishes joined forces about eight years ago.
“We wanted to put together an event that was larger than the individual churches could do,” said program coordinator Susan Bonucchi, who is a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Community in Naperville. “With kids and jobs and other volunteer activities, it’s hard to take as much time for our spouses as we want to.”
She says events like this one are a great way for couples to focus on just each other.
“It’s a chance to reignite the spark that you know is there but gets dimmed a lot,” Bonucchi said. “This is a program for people of all ages, for people who are engaged or thinking about marriage, to those who have been married more than 50 years. Even people who are married a long, long time realize the importance of keeping their relationship a priority.”
This year’s program will feature Dr. Allen Hunt, who serves alongside Matthew Kelly as the vice president of strategy and content at The Dynamic Catholic Institute. Hunt is a nationally known speaker and best-selling author whose books include: “Confessions of a Mega-Church Pastor: How I Discovered the Hidden Treasures of the Catholic Church”; “Everybody Needs to Forgive Somebody”; and “Nine Words: A Bible Study to Help You Become the Best-Version-of-Yourself.”
The program also will feature award-wining singer/songwriter George Lower.
This is the first time the marriage enrichment team is holding their event near Valentine’s Day.
“This just happened to be the weekend everyone was available. We thought it was a great coincidence,” Bonucchi said. “This is going to be well worth the effort for any couple coming to the event; well worth it for the sake of their relationship.
“(It) will help you see your marriage, your life, your faith and the world in a whole new way.”
