Pets of the Week: Dogs and cats ready for adoption

Maple

Age: 8 years old

Breed: Domestic short hair

Background: A good Samaritan found him outside in December and took him to a veterinarian.

Personality: Maple plays more like he is 4 or 5 years old. He loves people and will follow you around from room to room. He will tolerate other cats as long as they are not jumping all over him. Dogs don’t seem to bother him, and he is friendly with children.

Other: Neutered, microchipped and his vaccines are up to date.

Adoption fee: $100

Where to find him: www.helpinganimals.org or 877-364-2286

Bridget

Age: 2 years old

Breed: Short-haired tabby

Background: Bridget was born to an outdoor mom on St. Patrick’s Day of 2011, and rescued with her siblings at 5 weeks old. She has been in foster care since.

Personality: Bridget is a small, sweet kitty with a big voice, so she may be part Siamese. She is very petite and only weighs about 6 pounds. She likes cuddling with her foster mom, but can hold her own with the three big male cats she lives with.

Adoption fee: $100

Other: Spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines

Where to find her: Paws and Purrs Humane Society, 630-897-8738, www.pawsandpurrs.org. All our cats live in foster homes and can be seen at our adoption events or in their foster home by appointment.

Albert

Age: 8 years old

Breed: Short-haired Russian gray

Background: His owner gave up, because he could no longer care for him.

Personality: “Big Al” loves both men and women and dogs as well as cats. However, he has never been with children. Big Al is extremely “handsome” and loves giving head butts. He also likes receiving pets but will let you know when he has had enough.

Adoption fee: $100

Other: All animals at ADOPT are vet checked, spayed or neutered, microchipped and are up to date on age-related vaccines.

Where to find this pet: ADOPT Pet Shelter, 420 Industrial Drive, Naperville, 630-355-2299 or www.adoptpetshelter.org.

Ella

Age: 1 year old

Background: Terrier mix

Background: She was transferred from Bolingbrook Animal Control.

Personality: Ella weighs about 14 pounds, and is friendly and loves her walks. She doesn’t like other dogs getting right up into her face, so we would say no dogs and cats. However, she loves to play and is the perfect lap-size dog.

Adoption fee: $250

Where to find this pet: ADOPT Pet Shelter, 420 Industrial Drive, Naperville, 630-355-2299 or www.adoptpetshelter.org.

Lacey

Age: 2 years old

Breed: Retriever mix

Background: Lacey was surrendered to NAHS because her owner moved and could no longer afford to keep her.

Personality: Lacey is a super friendly girl who loves everybody! She loves meeting new people, making new canine friends, and is quite curious about cats. She is a dog with a lot of energy, so she would fit in well with an active family who has the time to help her get some of her energy out. Lacey’s previous owners said some of her favorite activities are: running, playing in the snow and going to the dog park.

Other: All animals at NAHS have been examined for health and temperament, are up-to-date on vaccines and have been microchipped. They are spayed and neutered at adoption.

Where to find this pet: Naperville Area Humane Society, 1620 W. Diehl Road in Naperville, www.napervilleareahumanesociety.org.

Leon

Age: 10 years old

Breed: Domestic short hair

Background: Leon was surrendered to NAHS because his owner moved.

Personality: He is an affectionate and playful cat that would fit in well with almost any family. His previous owners said he is used to an active household, and is outgoing and friendly, even around new people. Leon gets along well with most other cats, and might do OK living with a calm, gentle dog. If there are children in his new home, they should be 5 years or older.

Other: All animals at NAHS have been examined for health and temperament, are up-to-date on vaccines and have been microchipped. They are spayed and neutered at adoption.

Carter

Age: 2 years old

Breed: Spaniel/beagle mix

Personality: A fun, sweet boy, Carter enjoys running around the backyard and chasing squirrels. Snuggling with you in bed all night is another favorite pastime, along with going for walks and car rides. He is great with other dogs when there’s no food involved. Still a bit of a puppy at heart, Carter is prone to eating socks, so he’s best crated when you’re not home. He’s very food-motivated, so he’s easy to train and has already learned several basic commands. Carter is just 35 pounds — the perfect size for any household.

Other: Carter is neutered, housebroken and current on his vaccinations — microchipping is included with his adoption fee.

Adoption fee: $200

Where to find the pet: RoverRescue.org or call 630-897-7454
