What better day for deep dish pizzeria Lou Malnati’s to celebrate two decades of being part of downtown Naperville than Valentine’s Day.

“It was like a family event,” says manager Dawn Dau who has been with the family-run business at 131 W. Jefferson Ave. since two weeks after it opened in 1994.

“We sent out invitations to all our regular customers, served a luncheon for them, pizza and salad, of course,” adds Christy Kopp, event planner at Lou Malnati’s.

Dau says the eatery’s decades of success aren’t an accident.

“It’s a combination of the best pizza made with only fresh ingredients, sauces and dressings made from scratch, loyal customers and a dedicated staff of over 130,” Dau says.

Being part of a growing community and a wonderful downtown with great amenities was the idea Marc Malnati, son of founder Lou Malnati’s, had when he opened the first Naperville location, Dau says. “And we have such loyal customers. Even with the deepest snow, they came to eat, pulling their kids behind them on sleds and parking their sleds on the patio.”

Lunch, dinner, private parties, dinner rehearsals, corporate and private catering, the full-service restaurant and bar in downtown Naperville does it all. Check out their Pizza By Me events, guided tours of the pizzeria and then a make-your-own deep dish.

For just $7.95 Lou Malnati’s offers lunch in less than 20 minutes, Kopp explains. Or choose from a slice of deep dish pizza or a half order of sandwich, with your choice of salad or soup and a beverage. Try their monthly specials such as February’s bow-tie pasta with vodka sauce for just $8.49.

Lou Malnati started his career working in Chicago’s first deep dish pizzeria in 1940, and in 1971, supported by his wife, Jean, opened his first pizzeria in Lincolnwood. When losing Lou Malnati to cancer in 1978, the family rallied and both his sons, Marc and Rick, joined the family business.

A second Naperville location on 95th Street is carry-out and delivery only.

One-stop health care

Entrepreneur Akber Mohammedamin opened Prime Immediate and Primary Care, a one-stop clinic, at 535 Fairway Drive, Naperville, by the Route 59 Metra train station, on Jan. 6.

“We are looking to offer quality care to our patients for both immediate needs or regular visits,” says Mohammedamin, CEO of Prime Immediate and Primary Care.

He says the immediate care aspect of the clinic will give patients another option rather than a trip to the emergency room, while retaining all the benefits with onsite labs and a board-certified family practitioner and ER doctor.

“We accept all walk-ins, and can do blood work and minor procedures right at the facility,” Mohammedamin says.

“Dr. Fouzia (Muhammedkarim) can also treat children, unlike urgent-care facilities that often only have an internist on staff,” Mohammedamin says.
