Pets of the Week: Shelters offer dogs, cats for adoption

Bertram

Age: 1 year old

Breed: Akita/boxer mix

Background: He was transferred to NAHS from an overcrowded shelter in Oklahoma.

Personality: Bertram is an energetic and lively dog. He is a very smart guy and loves learning new things. Bertram is playful around most other dogs. He also might do OK living with a cat or two. Because he is jumpy and strong, children in Bertram’s new home should be older and experienced around dogs.

Adoption fee: $200

Other: All animals at NAHS have been examined for health and temperament, are up-to-date on vaccines and have been microchipped. They are spayed and neutered at adoption.

Where to find this pet: Naperville Area Humane Society, 1620 W. Diehl Road, Naperville, www.napervilleareahumanesociety.org.

Buster

Age: 3 years old

Breed: Coonhound mix

Personality: Buster is a fun-loving boy who enthusiastically greets you at the door when you come home, toy in mouth and ready to play! Nicknamed “Mr. Wigglepants,” his whole body goes into motion when he wags his tail. Buster absolutely adores women and kids. He’s a little nervous around men he doesn’t know, but he does well when introduced to them in a calm environment. Buster gets along great with other dogs, large and small.

Other: Buster is neutered, housebroken, crate-trained and current on his vaccinations. Microchipping is included with his adoption fee.

Adoption fee: $200

Where to find the pet: RoverRescue.org or 630-897-7454

Cadbury

Age: 1 year old

Breed: Domestic short hair

Background: He was surrendered to NAHS because of allergies.

Personality: Cadbury was named after everyone’s favorite Easter bunny: the Cadbury bunny. Although he isn’t actually a bunny, his name is pretty fitting. Cadbury is sweet, soft and irresistible. He also has a playful side and likes toys of any kind. Because he is so outgoing and friendly, Cadbury would do fine living with children of any age. He has never lived with a dog, but seems to like most other cats.

Adoption fee: $50

Other: All animals at NAHS have been examined for health and temperament, are up-to-date on vaccines and have been microchipped. They are spayed and neutered at adoption.

Personality: Finn is a bit shy until he gets to know you. He loves to sit on his foster mom’s lap and purr. He has a tabby sister, and two other kitty buddies, and would love to go to his new home with one of his friends, if possible.

Adoption fee: $100

Other: Neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines

Howie

Age: 1-1/2 years old

Breed: Hound mix

Background: Howie, who is 53.6 pounds, arrived at ADOPT in September from Kentucky.

Personality: Howie has been working on his manners and some commands. Howie enjoys his daily walks and is still learning how to walk nice on a leash. He is very active and energetic and requires obedience training, a fenced in yard and plenty of exercise. Howie needs a person who will take charge. He would do best in a home that will be dedicated to his training and exercise.
