Pets of the Week: Dogs and cats available for adoption

Benji

Age: 2 years old

Breed: Domestic short hair

Background: Benji was bottle fed at 2 weeks old with two siblings. A family with kids adopted her and her brother in January 2012 but returned them after opening an in-home daycare.

Personality: Benji is low maintenance and loves to play with people and her toys. She is confident and not shy around people. In fact, she is super friendly, even to people she has never met. She likes to rubs on everyone and purrs like crazy. Benji is medium sized and built like an athlete. She is very active and curious. She would love a quiet adult home with a sunny window and a cushy bed.

Adoption fee: $100 includes up to date on vaccinations, microchip, spayed, Felk/FIV test negative and vet checks.

Dude

Age: 2-1/2 years old

Breed: Dachshund mix

Background: He came from a high kill shelter in Kentucky.

Personality: Dude would prefer to be an only dog in the home. He is a very shy boy, and he will need a quiet home with no small children. Dude will need time to warm up to his new people and surroundings. Once Dude has the time he needs to become comfortable with you, he wants nothing more than to be in your arms.

Adoption fee: $250

Other: All animals are spayed or neutered, microchipped and are up to date on age-related vaccines.

Where to find this pet: ADOPT Pet Shelter, 420 Industrial Drive, Naperville, 630-355-2299 or www.adoptpetshelter.org.

Peter

Age: 3 years old

Breed: Domestic short hair

Background: He came from Feral Fixers in October.

Personality: Peter is FIV positive so he would need to live as either an only cat or with another cat who is FIV positive. He is a laid back gent with a personality of his own. He is very mild mannered — except when it involves food — he loves to eat.

Adoption fee: $100

Other: All animals are vet checked, spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and are up to date on age-related vaccines.

Where to find this pet: ADOPT Pet Shelter at 630-355-2299.

Buddy

Age: 6 years old

Breed: Beagle mix

Background: He was found abandoned outside a restaurant.

Personality: Buddy is a very loving dog who never says no to attention. He would fit in well with pretty much any family since he is great with cats, dogs and children of all ages. Buddy would love to be part of an active family since he is a huge fan of the great outdoors. Running and going for long walks are two of his favorite activities, especially when the weather is nice.

Adoption fee: $200

Other: All animals at NAHS have been examined for health and temperament, are up-to-date on vaccines and have been microchipped. They are spayed and neutered at adoption.

Where to find this pet: Naperville Area Humane Society, 1620 W. Diehl Road in Naperville, www.napervilleareahumanesociety.org.

Catarina

Age: 3-1/2 years old

Breed: Domestic short hair

Background: She was found stray and brought to NAHS.

Personality: Catarina is a sweet, mellow cat who enjoys gentle affection. She likes to spend her afternoons relaxing and enjoying your company. She can be a lap cat at times, but also likes spending time to herself. When she’s feeling playful, Catarina loves fuzzy mouse toys. She doesn’t like dogs, but she might be OK living with another calm and gentle cat.

Adoption fee: $5 through March 16

Other: All animals at NAHS have been examined for health and temperament, are up-to-date on vaccines and have been microchipped. They are spayed and neutered at adoption.

Kenton

Age: 1½ years old

Breed: Fox hound-Australian shepherd mix

Personality: A sweet, goofy dog, Kenton loves both kids and adults and enjoys being with you all the time. He likes to play fetch and is great at catching treats in the air. But he can also be happy lying around with a toy when things are quiet. Kenton especially likes to snuggle with you on the couch at the end of a long day. While he’s generally good with other dogs, he sometimes picks on the more timid ones. Kenton is 35 pounds of enthusiasm.

Other: Kenton is neutered, housebroken, crate-trained and current on his vaccinations — microchipping is included with his adoption fee.

Adoption fee: $200

Breed: Short-hair Tabby and white
