Editor’s note: The Sun, with the help of the Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club, is featuring each month a recent Naperville transplant or a resident who has had a significant life change. Let’s get to know our neighbors!
Suzanne Apgar, 67, came to Naperville 26 years ago when her husband, Wayne, took a new job. Originally from Pittsburgh, she was raised in the Chicago area, but has lived with her husband in Pittsburgh, Penn.; Memphis, Tenn.; Youngstown, Ohio; Lexington, Ken.; Fairport, N.Y.; and Bristol, Conn.
What brought you to Naperville?
“We moved to Naperville 26 years ago with my husband’s new job and love it! Naperville is a great place to raise a family. We were impressed with the high quality of the 204 school district and the sense of community.”
How did you hear about the NNNC?
“A Welcome Wagon hostess came to visit and told me about the group. She said it was an excellent way to meet people and have interesting and fun things to do. I participated in the club for three years, left for awhile and came back when I found out that you can be a member as long as you like, no matter how long you have lived in the area.”
What are your favorite things to do in the club?
“We have made some wonderful friends through Ladies Canasta; Couple’s Canasta, of which I am the chairperson; TGIF Social; and my husband is on the Monday Night Men’s Golf League. Occasionally, I try to put together a group that goes into Chicago for dinner and a live performance — fun!
Where do you live and why do you like it?
“We live in the Springbrook Crossings subdivision. Our boys were able to walk to their respective schools. Now that they are grown with their own families, we are currently building a home in Carillon Club, which should be ready in May. We look forward to downsizing, living on one level and making new friends there. Naperville is our home!”
The Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club holds a welcome coffee once a month from September through June at the Municipal Center. Contact Sue at 630-904-5629 to learn more.
