The city of Naperville has announced that Rachel Mayer, currently the finance director for the city of Joliet, has been named as Naperville’s new finance director.
Mayer, who will be responsible for Naperville’s total budget of $436 million, was selected from more than 200 applicants.
“Rachel Mayer has an extensive background in budget and accounting, specifically in the public sector, which is a great asset to our team,” City Manager Doug Krieger said. “I have no doubt Rachel will make a smooth transition to our Finance Department and will be able to provide our city with strong fiscal management as we continue to navigate what is still a challenging economic climate.”
Prior to serving as finance director for the city of Joliet, Mayer served as a capital budget manager for the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority and a budget analyst for the Illinois Bureau of the Budget/Office of the Governor. She also served as a senior accountant for the American Society for Clinical Pathology and a risk advisory associate for KPMG, LLP.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for me,” Mayer said. “The city of Naperville has an excellent financial reputation and I look forward to enhancing that distinction. I plan to build on my previous experience and my passion for financial accountability in government to readily accept the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”
Mayer’s first day with the city will be Monday, March 31. Her base salary is $137,500.
