The Management Association, an Illinois employers’ association serving more than 1,000 companies and organizations, named the Naperville Park District’s Director of Human Resources Katie Sepe “HR Professional of the Year” at the Association’s conference and annual meeting in Schaumburg on March 11, 2014.
According to the Management Association’s nomination form, nominees for the honor may be selected for their notable contributions to the field of human resources as a career profession, overall career excellence in human resources, distinguished leadership in their organization, and design and/or implementation of significant programs or activities for their organization.
“Katie Sepe is by far the most competent and forward thinking human resources professional I have worked with. From managing unique employee issues to the ever-changing Affordable Care Act, Katie is always a step ahead of the situation,” said Executive Director Ray McGury.
Some of Sepe’s accomplishments at the Naperville Park District include fostering a positive work environment, researching and promoting staff training opportunities, supporting a large part of the District’s accreditation processes, and continually improving the District’s hiring process, employee benefits, and policies.
Additionally, Sepe represents the Naperville Park District on the Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA) Claims Committee, the PDRMA Education and Training Committee, the Management Association of Illinois HR Advisory Committee and the Ribfest Steering Committee.
Sepe has earned respect from her staff, as evidenced in comments made by Benefits and HR Coordinator Cyndi Bittenbinder on the nomination form: “Her drive for excellence and support of others’ accomplishments have directly and positively influenced the success of the Naperville Park District. Her work and dedication have helped elevate the Naperville Park District to be viewed as a desirable local employer and regarded as an excellent agency within the parks and recreation field.”
Sepe graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety. She joined the Naperville Park District in January 1996 as the risk manager, assumed the role of human resources manager in January 2005 and became the director of human resources in January 2011.
