Rapper charged with forgery at Naperville car dealership

A Chicago-based rap artist remained Thursday night in DuPage County Jail in Wheaton, after being accused of using a bogus check to obtain a sport utility vehicle last summer from a car dealership in Naperville.

Dionte T. Alexander, 26, is a rapper who goes by the stage name ItsMrAlexander, according to his website. He is being held on $70,000 bail and is set to appear Monday in DuPage County Circuit Court to answer five felony charges that include forgery, theft, theft by deception and the receipt, possession or sale of a stolen motor vehicle.

Naperville police went about 2 p.m. Tuesday to Cook County Jail, at 26th Street and California Avenue in Chicago, where Alexander was being held, police records indicated.

Police Sgt. Bill Davis said Alexander allegedly went Aug. 12 to a car dealership on the 1400 block of West Ogden Avenue on Naperville’s west side. Davis declined to identify the dealership.

Alexander that day allegedly used “a fraudulent cashier’s check” to purchase a black, 2002 Lincoln Navigator, Davis said Thursday in an email. The alleged fraud was discovered four days later by employees of the dealership, he said.

Chicago police last summer arrested Alexander, after he was allegedly found driving the SUV while drunk, Davis said. Further investigation led to officials of the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office approving felony charges against Alexander, he said.

A DuPage County grand jury on Jan. 28 indicted Alexander on the forgery, theft and stolen vehicle charges, according to court records.

Alexander’s website indicated he is “better known by his stage name, ItsMrAlexander, (and) is an American rapper and producer.”

He is the “owner of Midwest indie hip hop label Paratroop Nation Music Group,” according to the website. He has released two albums and is working on a third, and has released “his first viral video for the single, ‘WhereDemBands@,’” the website indicated.

Alexander is a native of Chicago’s south side who “began rapping at the age of 12, and making beats at the age of 15,” according to the website. Several of his videos have been posted to YouTube.

The website indicated Alexander is the father of twin boys and an older son. An examination of court documents revealed he has no criminal record in DuPage, Kane and Will counties.
