Partying at Coachella all weekend didn’t stop the stars from attending this year’s MTV Movie Awards in style. They traded their bohemian concert outfits for Hollywood glam silhouettes and it made for an interesting red carpet to say the least. In no particular order, here are my favorite and least favorite looks of the night.
Zendaya wearing an Ungaro dress and Christian Louboutin heels
First off, I am so happy to see Zendaya in one of the only print dresses on the red carpet. The neon, floral print doesn’t overwhelm the overall look and I love the strip of neon yellow at the base of the skirt. The slit on the dress is the perfect touch to show off her legs. Her Christian Louboutin heels and clutch match the black in the print of the dress and her accessories are understated. I think I would have preferred her hair to be pulled away from her face because it covers the beautiful print of the dress. Nevertheless, Zendaya does it again and wows at the MTV Movie Awards.
Lupita Nyong’o wearing Chanel
Ever since the 2014 Golden Globes when Lupita wore that gorgeous, red Ralph Lauren cape, she has proven over and over again that she just knows how to wear fashion. Her choice to wear Chanel at the MTV Movie Awards proves to me once again, that she can do no wrong when it comes to red carpet. The dress fits her like a glove and the colors are perfect for spring. She usually wears solid-colored dresses and this was a jaw-dropping surprise. She wore baby blue heels, which brought out the pastel hue from the print. Not many people can pull off a turtle neck with heavily embellished shoulders, but Lupita can. Before she presented the award for Best On-Screen Transformation, she said that nobody knew her name before this year. Thanks to her fearless red carpet fashion, we’ll never forget it.
Rita Ora wearing Barbara Casasola
This would have to be my favorite beauty look of the night. Rita’s soft blonde curls and cherry red lips are picture perfect. Her smoky eye shadow is toned down to keep her lips the focal point of the look. The dress falls at the right length and just barely touches the ground. Her dress shows a lot of cleavage, but if there is any award show at which to accentuate your assets, it would definitely have to be the MTV Movie Awards. Rita loves fashion and it’s not out of the ordinary to find her on the worst dressed lists, but I think she looks gorgeous. She’s one of my best dressed of the night.
Rihanna wearing Ulyana Sergeenko
Nobody will ever be able to predict what Rihanna plans to wear on the red carpet because she likes to change her image so often. She chose to accentuate her curves with a white bustier covered with a silk robe. I have to be honest and say this is not my favorite look that Rihanna has ever worn, but I can’t say that I hate it either. Her jet-black hair contrasts the white ensemble nicely and her makeup is toned down to keep the look fresh. I think that if she was going to pull her hair back she should have committed and pulled it all back, instead of a few pieces blowing in front of her face. This look is very reminiscent of the ‘90s with the simple silhouette and flowy fabric.
Debby Ryan wearing Rachel Zoe
At first glance I thought to myself, wow Debby looks a lot like Rachel Zoe. Then I found out she was wearing a Rachel Zoe pantsuit and I was not surprised at all. From the hair all the way down to the wide, slouchy pant, this look screams comfortable and chic. Even though she is wearing all black, her makeup is toned down with fresh, rosy cheeks and soft pink lip stain. The ruching around her waist flatters her figure and accentuates her curves. Her strawberry blonde hair pops against the severity of the black pantsuit creates a hard, yet soft look. Wearing all black seemed to be a very big trend on the MTV movie awards red carpet.
Shailene Woodley wearing Balmain and Jimmy Choo heels
Shailene looks like she’s about to walk the runway in this editorial look. The olive color of the outfit matches the color of her eyes perfectly and looks great against her skin tone. Her slicked back hair keeps the attention on her face. The leather pleated skirt and the leather crop top work well together and it makes for a really fun look. I love the detail on the belt because it’s unique and nobody else on the carpet is wearing anything like it. The one part of the outfit that I don’t like at all would be the shoes. They are too clunky to wear with this outfit because they cut off her legs and make her look short. I love the Balmain crop top and skirt, just not the right shoes to pair it with.
Nicki Minaj wearing Alexander McQueen
Nicki stunned on the red carpet because this is the first time in a long time that she’s not wearing a wig. She stepped onto the red carpet as “Nick Minaj the actress” and not “Nicki Minaj the musician.” She dressed a simple Alexander McQueen LBD (Little Black Dress) with gold jewelry and toned down makeup. She can get away with the amount of jewelry she is wearing because of the simplicity of the solid-black dress. I love Nicki’s natural look without the loud hair and makeup she usually wears. She makes a statement by looking simply sexy.
Bella Thorne wearing Versace
I’m just going to come out and say it: I hate this look. There are too many ideas going on in one dress. The draping doesn’t flatter her figure, especially on her arm. She looks as if she’s wearing a cast. The pastel blue color washes out her skin tone. I love her hair color and I think her makeup is really pretty with the peach-pink lips and frosty eye shadow. Unfortunately, this looks falls flat for me. It’s my choice for worst dressed of the night.
