The College of DuPage is moving its community farm two miles to the Danada Forest Preserve.
The college announced a tentative agreement Thursday with the Forest Preserve District for a one-acre plot of land at Danana near Butterfield and Naperville Roads in Wheaton.
The move will require an intergovernmental agreement between the two entities.
A press release quoted Forest Preserve District president-elect Joe Cantore, who commented on the rationale for the partnership, made necessary by the college’s decision to discontinue the farm to accommodate future on-campus development.
“Part of the district’s mission is to present the county’s agricultural roots as well as modern environmental practices, so bringing the organic education farm to the Danada Model Farm is a good fit,” Cantore said.
