Baseball: Heady baserunning, stout pitching leads Neuqua Valley to win

Andy Sommers threw a complete-game four-hit shutout and Mike Riesner stole home to get the scoring started as Neuqua Valley defeated Metea Valley 3-1 Tuesday.

A sharp wind blowing, both teams throwing their best, it was going to be a tough day for anyone to hit at Metea Valley.

Especially, that is, with the way Andy Sommers was dealing.

Baseball: Wheaton North bats overpower Naperville North

Greg Scandora had four RBI, including a three-run double with two outs in the sixth inning, to lead Wheaton North to a 12-3 win over Naperville North.

Give a quality team enough chances to beat you and chances are they’ll take you up on that offer.

That’s the lesson Naperville North learned the hard way Tuesday afternoon.

Girls Soccer: Surging Metea Valley upsets Naperville North

Metea Valley scored one goal early and another late and knocked off host Naperville North 2-0 on Tuesday in Naperville. It was Metea Valley’s first win over the two-time defending state champion Huskies.

The match started an hour late because of a track meet, but that only delayed Metea Valley’s historic accomplishment.
