Softball: Melaina Koulos’ dramatic walkoff homer powers Waubonsie Valley past Naperville North

Senior third baseman Melaina Koulos belted a three-run home run over the fence in right-center field Thursday to lift Waubonsie Valley to its 11th straight win, a 5-3 nonconference decision over Naperville North.

The streak lives on for the Waubonsie Valley softball team, thanks to Melaina Koulos and her flair for the dramatic.

Baseball: Three newcomers propel Neuqua Valley to victory over East Aurora

Kevin Hutt, Tyler Jaeger and Jake Alexander aren’t usually in the starting lineup for Neuqua Valley, but the three played a role in Neuqua Valley’s 14-5 victory over East Aurora Thursday.

Kevin Hutt, Tyler Jaeger and Jake Alexander aren’t usually in the starting lineup for Neuqua Valley, but the three players were there for Thursday’s Upstate Eight Valley Conference game.

All three took advantage of the opportunity, too, as Hutt scored two runs and had two RBI, Jaeger drove in two runs, and Alexander went 2-for-4 with a three-run triple to lead the host Wildcats to a 14-5 victory over East Aurora.

Girls Soccer: Kristen Dodson, Waubonsie Valley steamroll Palatine

Senior forward Kristen Dodson scored two goals and junior Sarah Laws registered three assists as No. 5 Waubonsie Valley blitzed host Palatine 5-1 Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the Naperville Invitational.

Waubonsie Valley was vulnerable in March as injuries and the severe weather prevented the Warriors from accessing their field.

Girls Soccer: Kiley Czerwinski scores twice as Neuqua Valley tops Naperville North

Kiley Czerwinski’s two goals came during a three-minute span and each gave Neuqua Valley a two-goal lead en route to a 3-2 win over Naperville North.

Neuqua Valley dominated the action and led by a goal at halftime against host Naperville North on Thursday, but the Wildcats were far from satisfied.

“We weren’t satisfied with how we were playing and we really wanted to step it up and I think that we did,” junior Kiley Czerwinski said. “We had crosses coming up from both sides and I’m glad that we started connecting off of them.”
