Police Blotter: 4 people found sleeping inside Naperville business

These are incidents reported by the Naperville Police Department. Where charges have been filed, the report includes when and where the suspect was stopped or taken into custody and the nature of the charges.

Tuesday, May 6

Police patrol request: A 60-year-old resident of the 200 block of Elmwood Drive requested extra police patrolling of her property; report provided no further information.

Marijuana possession: Shannon C. Mitchell, 20, Warrenville; 12:01 a.m. near Red Roof Inn, 1698 W. Diehl Road; charged with possession of marijuana, driving with obstructed windshield or rear window and failure to signal.

Theft: Michael J. Slimak, 21, Aurora; 12:49 a.m. near Ogden Avenue and Columbia Street; charged with theft.

Public urination: About 1:03 a.m., unidentified male or female found urinating outside unidentified business on 200 block of South Washington Street; report did not indicate whether arrest was made or ticket issued.

Suspicious incident: A resident of the 1100 block of Elizabeth Avenue told police about 2:32 a.m., he “first thought his car was burglarized, (but) later determined that it was not.”

Suspicious incident: About 2:54 a.m., unidentified male and three females found sleeping inside unidentified business on 1800 block of Wehrli Road; police discovered door to business had been opened; report provided no further information.

Property damage: A 52-year-old man reported between 9:30 p.m. May 5 and 4:30 a.m., entire section of fence and several, individual pickets damaged outside building on 0-99 block of North Wright Street.

Traffic crash: About 6:43 a.m., three-vehicle traffic crash occurred at Hobson Road and Washington Street; report did not indicate whether there were injuries; unidentified motorist charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident/driving too fast for conditions.

Property damage: A 64-year-old man reported sometime before 7 a.m., hit-and-run vehicle struck and damaged mailbox outside home on 1300 block of Ada Lane.

Vehicle damage: A 45-year-old man reported between 5 p.m. May 5 and 9 a.m., tailgate window broken on vehicle parked in driveway of home on 2800 block of Seiler Drive.

Attempted theft: A 61-year-old resident of 1300 block of Haverhill Circle reported sometime between 9:18 and 10:53 a.m., he received telephone call from someone claiming to be with the IRS; caller said man “owed an unspecified amount of back taxes and to stay at his residence, because Naperville (police) would arrive in 30 minutes to arrest him;” when man told caller he knew this was a scam, caller hung up phone; no money lost during incident.

Wednesday, May 7

Traffic tickets: Apriyani C. Lord-Jackson, 20, Chicago; 3:07 a.m. near Prairie Avenue and Loomis Street; charged with unspecified Illinois Vehicle Code offenses.

Theft: Nathaniel Brown, 46, hometown not provided; 2:22 p.m. at Metra Railway Fourth Avenue commuter train station, 105 E. Fourth Ave.; charged with theft.

Improper lane use: About 2:40 p.m., unidentified school bus driver charged with improper lane use, after bus struck vehicle parked near North Avenue and Julian Street.

No insurance: About 6:55 p.m., vehicle struck rear of other vehicle while leaving parking lot of Naperville Public Library’s Nichols Library, 200 W. Jefferson Ave.; at-fault motorist charged with driving without insurance and failure to yield right of way.

Fire department assistance: About 7:45 p.m., police provided assistance while Naperville Fire Department firefighters extinguished vehicle fire on 700 block of Royal St. George Drive.
