Police Blotter: Burglar burrows into business through ceiling, wall

These are incidents reported by the Naperville Police Department. Where charges have been filed, the report includes when and where the suspect was stopped or taken into custody and the nature of the charges.

Saturday, May 10

Theft: A 52-year-old man reported between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m., $3,000 and cell phone stolen from his room at Baymont Inn & Suites Naperville, 1585 Naperville-Wheaton Road; man told police theft occurred after he “went to the store and left subjects in the room that he barely knows.”

Sunday, May 11

Fake ID: Between 11:52 p.m. May 10 and 12:09 a.m., two unidentified males or females charged with misrepresentation of age by minors, after trying to use other people’s identification to enter unidentified bar or bars on 0-99 block of West Chicago Avenue.

Burglary: A 27-year-old man reported between 3:37 and 3:43 a.m., unidentified business on 1500 block of North Naper Boulevard burglarized, after intruder broke through ceiling of adjacent unit and then broke hole in wall.

Traffic crash: About 10:13 a.m., unidentified motorist and passenger taken by ambulance to Edward Hospital in Naperville, after suffering non-life-threatening injuries when vehicle struck pole in parking lot of strip mall on 500 block of South Route 59; no tickets issued, as crash occurred on private property.

No insurance: About 10:35 a.m., unidentified motorist charged with driving without insurance, after failing to stop for stop sign and striking vehicle in intersection of Leverenz Road and Skylane Drive.

Traffic crash: About 10:53 a.m., unidentified motorist charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident/driving too fast for conditions, following three-vehicle traffic crash near Aurora Avenue and Washington Street.

Shoplifting: Gabriel A. Guajardo, 27, Aurora; 3:30 p.m. at Menards, 715 Fort Hill Drive; charged with retail theft.

Shoplifting: Demetrius D. Stewart, 29, Aurora; 4:46 p.m. near Walmart SuperCenter, 2552 W. 75th St.; charged with retail theft and possession of marijuana, after hiding unspecified merchandise in his pants inside store and fleeing when confronted by security worker; Stewart found outside store and arrested.

Disorderly conduct: A 30-year-old woman reported sometime before 8:19 p.m., mail tampered with before or after being delivered to home on 1100 block of Iroquois Avenue.

Monday, May 12

Vehicle damage: Sometime between 4:30 a.m. May 9 and 7:38 a.m. today, BBs broke two windows on door of bus on campus of Chesterbrook Academy, 1571 Oswego Road; no entry made to bus, nothing stolen.

Theft: A 48-year-old woman reported about 2:04 p.m., she went to unidentified business on 1700 block of West Ogden Avenue “to complain about a stain on her husband’s shirts. When she left the business, she accidentally left her cell phone on the counter, (and) when she returned to retrieve it a few minutes later, it was missing.”

Vehicle damage: A 32-year-old man reported between noon May 9 and 2:51 p.m. today, “numerous dents and dings” made in body of vehicle parked on 1900 block of Brookdale Road.

Vehicle damage: A 38-year-old woman reported between 7:50 a.m. and 4:50 p.m., hood damaged on vehicle parked in lot on 1500 block of North Naper Boulevard.

Traffic crash: About 5:45 p.m., three-vehicle, rear-end, chain-reaction traffic crash occurred near 75th Street and Millbrook Drive; unidentified, at-fault motorist charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident/driving too fast for conditions.

Battery: About 7:19 p.m., police investigated “neighborhood trouble” on 1200 block of Whispering Hills Court; report provided no further information.

Forgery: A 75-year-old resident of ManorCare Health Services, 200 W. Martin Ave., called police about 7:40 p.m. to report “her granddaughter obtained a loan” using the woman’s personal information.
