For the second time in a week — and very nearly to the hour — a masked, armed robber has held up a convenience store in central Naperville.

Police on Thursday appealed to the public for help in finding the man or men responsible for the apparently related holdups of the 7-Eleven store at 351 E. Bailey Road.

The most recent robbery occurred at 10:07 a.m. Thursday, according to a police news release. The man implied he was carrying a weapon, although a store employee said none was displayed.

Police said the man was given “an unknown amount of currency and (then) fled the scene.” A dark-green, older model Volkswagen Jetta with a tan roof was seen in the area at the time of the robbery, and might have figured in the crime, the release stated.

The robber was described as being a brown-haired, unshaven white man of about 30 years old. A red mask covered part of his face, and he also wore a gray, hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and white and black athletic shoes, according to the release.

It marked the second time in a week that the store had been robbed. The first stickup occurred about 7:21 a.m. May 15 under similar circumstances.

The robber in that case was described as being a white or Latino man wearing a black ski mask. He also wore a black coat, dark-colored jeans and black and white athletic shoes.

“No arrests have been made in the robbery from last week, and both appear to be related,” the release stated.

Witnesses to either robbery, or those who believe they have information about either of the cases, are asked to call Naperville police at 630-420-6664, or Naperville Crime Stoppers, at 630-420-6006. Callers can remain anonymous.
