They weren’t exactly working by the seat of their pants, but the metaphor isn’t that far off, either.

Area artists have been busy recently, embellishing old chairs in creative ways to prepare them to go on the auction block next month.

Bridge Communities’ “A Chair Affair” fundraiser will offer the 27 masterpieces at a gala set for June 12 in the Wentz Concert Hall and Fine Arts Center at North Central College in Naperville. Proceeds from the event will help the agency’s programs, which include the placement of families into transitional housing in Naperville and other DuPage County communities while they work to regain their self-sufficiency.

Preceding the festivities will be a display of the chairs in 20 downtown Naperville locations, so the public can cast votes online for their favorite creations. The chairs will be set up from May 27 until June 11.

Here are the titles given to each piece by its designer/artist, the artist’s name, the location where the chair can be seen, and the sponsoring entity.
