Veteran of the Month: A. George Pradel, Marines

George A. Pradel

Rank: Corporal

Branch of service: U.S. Marine Corp

Current age: 76

Total years served: 2 years

Served from: 1956 to 1959

Places Served: Parris Island, South Carolina; 29 Palms Marine Base, California; En-route to Turkey (In the summer 1957, there was an uprising in Turkey. Upon boarding the ships and beginning the journey, Turkey stood down, so we turned back before anything escalated)

Fondest memory while serving: “My favorite memory while serving is taking a ‘6 ply’ to town to see the Elvis movie ‘Love me Tender.’ I’ll always remember sitting in the back of that troop carrier watching the movie while stationed at 29 Palms in the Mojave Dessert.”

Quote 1: “Freedom is not Free” — being the month of Memorial Day, please remember those who have served, currently serving and most of all, those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Quote 2: “The Marine Corp motto is ‘Semper Fidelis’ or ‘Semper Fi,’ which is a Latin phrase translating to ‘always faithful’.”

Every month the Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 in Naperville chooses a Veteran of the Month for The Naperville Sun.
