The travel blog Cities Journal ranked Naperville the seventh best small city in Illinois, praising its scenic Riverwalk, accessible transportation, summer festivals and relaxed spirit.
Naperville is one of the only actual cities on this list, at least according to Illinois law; it’s also the oldest existing settlement in DuPage County, with a bigger population than any of the suburbs closer to Chicago. The Naperville Riverwalk serves as the town’s focal point and go-to recreation destination.
Even its back story captures the warm and relaxed spirit that makes the town unique: in 1981, Naperville’s own residents pitched in to create this beautiful park in honor of the town’s 150th anniversary. The DuPage River runs along the park’s 1.75 miles of winding paths, artwork, and historic monuments that include a bell tower and a clock tower.ranking Naperville, Riverwalk
