Naperville North and Central high schools celebrate graduation

Students from Naperville Central and Naperville North high schools were greeted with “perfect” conditions, according to those who were at Wednesday night’s graduation ceremonies at each school. A downpour Tuesday night caused the pomp and circumstance to be postponed a night.

Here is a little about this year’s class at each high school:

Naperville Central High School

Number of graduating seniors: 708

Percentage of students who plan to attend college: 96 percent

Top four year colleges the graduates plan to attend: Illinois State University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Indiana University and University of Missouri

Military appointment: Alexandra O’Brien to the U.S. Air Force Academy

National Hispanic Recognition Scholar: Jessica Matos

National Merit Finalists: 14

Male Athlete of the Year: Jake Kolbe

Female Athlete of the Year: Grace Orndorff

Commencement student speakers: Philip Hinch, Emily Zhen and Vanitha Raguveer

Class gifts: Monetary donations as follows: $4,000 to the Redhawk Window Etching;$1,500 to the Adaptive PE program; $1,000 to complete water filling stations; $2,000 to the NCHS chapter of Food Fight; $2,000 to Family Connection; $2,000 to Almost Home Kids of Naperville; $2,000 Hesed House in Aurora.

Number of graduating seniors: 787

Percentage of students who plan to attend college: 97 percent

Top four-year colleges the graduates plan to attend: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Indiana University, Illinois State University and University of Iowa

Military appointment: Andrew Pyskir to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point

National Merit Finalists: 25

National Achievement Finalist: Zachary Adcock

National Hispanic Recognition Scholars: Sebastian Wagner-Carena and Daniel Sanchez

Male Athlete of the Year: Desean Brown

Female Athlete of the Year: Maria McDaniel

Commencement student speakers: Christine Wang and Jamie Danemayer

Class gift: Large decorative “skirt” for the visitor’s bleachers at the school stadium.
