Naperville police are continuing their search for the man or youth who swooped in and grabbed a pedestrian’s purse before making his getaway on a bicycle.

The 24-year-old woman was not hurt during the incident. It occurred about 10:40 p.m. May 24 near Bailey Road and Coach Drive, in the central part of the city, according to a written police report.

Sgt. Bill Davis said the woman told police she was robbed after leaving Washington Street and walking on Coach Drive. That was when “a subject riding a bicycle grabbed her purse,” Davis said in an email.

The thief fled east on Bailey Road. Davis said the red-colored purse had a long strap, and the police report indicated it contained a credit card.

Davis said the thief was described as being a black male wearing beige cargo shorts, a black hoodie and white, high-top shoes. He rode a black and white, BMX-style bicycle.

“The case is still under investigation, and is not believed to be related” to two recent robberies of the nearby 7-Eleven convenience food store on Bailey Road, Davis said. Two local men were arrested last week and charged in those holdups.

Witnesses to the purse-snatching, or those who believe they have information about the case, can call Naperville police at 630-420-6666.
