Traffic headed east on Rickert Drive in Naperville was diverted onto Sanctuary Lane for a brief period Wednesday, after a minivan went off the rain-slicked road shortly before 8:30 a.m. and sheared off two trees.

Responders to the scene included operators of extrication equipment, which was used to remove two people from the vehicle. Sgt. Bill Davis, public information officer for the Naperville Police Department, said both were taken to Edward Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. The driver was a 77-year-old woman and the passenger was her daughter, age 53, Davis said.

One eastbound lane was reopened before 9:30 a.m. Vehicles from the Public Works Department, including one equipped with a chipper, and other pieces of equipment remained on the scene clearing away the debris from the broken trees.

Davis said the driver was cited for driving too fast for the conditions.
