Naperville student’s ‘Be Happy, Not Gay’ shirt ranked among most controversial

A T-shirt made by a Naperville student at Neuqua Valley High School was ranked as one of the most controversial of all time by New York Magazine’s The Cut.

Heidi Zamecnik’s homemade shirt, which read “Be Happy, Not Gay,” resulted in a lawsuit that ended in federal appeals court. The judge ultimately ruled that the school could not ban Zamecnik from wearing the shirt.
