Police report: Homeless people and dog found sleeping in moving van

These are incidents reported by the Naperville Police Department. Where charges have been filed, the report includes when and where the suspect was stopped or taken into custody and the nature of the charges.

Saturday, June 28

Theft: A 62-year-old woman reported sometime between June 14 and today, four solar-powered “spike lights” stolen from outside her dental office on 100 block of North Washington Street.

Monday, June 30

Neighborhood trouble: A resident of the 1700 block of Butler Court reported about 2 a.m., glass bottles hurled and shattered on pavement of cul-de-sac; resident said same trouble has occurred three other times.

Theft: A 41-year-old man reported between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., front license plate stolen from vehicle parked on 1900 block of Town Drive.

Vehicle burglary: A 46-year-old woman reported between 4:45 and 5:20 p.m., bag stolen from vehicle parked outside unidentified business on 2800 block of Aurora Avenue.

Suspended license: Tyler J. Vansickle, 19, Wheaton; 5:28 p.m. near 87th Street and Naper Boulevard; charged with driving with a suspended license and speeding.

Suspicious incident: About 8:26 p.m., door found open on vehicle parked on 1500 block of Bond Street.

Tuesday, July 1

Trespassing: About 8:10 a.m., two homeless people and dog found sleeping inside moving van parked on 1500 block of West Ogden Avenue; subjects were issued city of Naperville tickets for trespassing and then allowed to leave with dog.

Property damage: A 31-year-old woman reported between 9 a.m. June 30 and 9 a.m. today, unknown object struck and cracked sliding glass door to her home on 100 block of Testa Drive.

Trespassing: About 10:17 a.m., unidentified male or female received “no trespassing” warning on behalf of owner of unidentified business on 2700 block of Aurora Avenue.

Business scam: About 1:08 p.m., male customer used $20 bill to purchase “small item” at unidentified business on 1500 block of North Aurora Road; customer “then claimed to the distracted cashier that he did not receive the correct change;” later, review of store surveillance video “determined the suspect had pocketed the change in question.”

Vehicle vs. pedestrian: About 1:44 p.m., 14-year-old girl struck by vehicle in crosswalk on Jefferson Avenue east of Washington Street; report did not state seriousness of girl’s injury; unidentified motorist charged with failure to yield right of way to pedestrian.

Unlicensed driver: About 4:50 p.m., unidentified motorist charged with driving without a license, following traffic crash at Aurora Avenue and River Road.

No insurance: Edson A. Sepulveda, 27, Aurora; 6:23 p.m. near Diehl Road and Country Lakes Drive; charged with driving without insurance.

Aggravated driving under the influence: Karla C. Bonifas, 57, Aurora; 6:32 p.m. near Olive Garden Italian Restaurant, 620 S. Route 59; charged with aggravated DUI; restaurant manager called police because Bonifas was allegedly under influence of alcohol and drugs.

Shoplifting: About 7:54 p.m., retail theft occurred at unidentified business on 200 block of South Route 59; report provided no further information.
