NCTV17 sports show features 14-year-old hockey player

School sports might be taking the summer off, but NCTV17’s sports team isn’t! Be sure to catch this summer’s first episode of “The Home Stretch” this week. Hosted by Naperville Sports Weekly’s Justin Zipser, “The Home Stretch” is a 30-minute sports show that features in-depth stories about athletes with Naperville ties.

In this month’s episode, we share the story of an NHL prospect. Sean Dhooghe plays for the Chicago Mission Hockey Club and, at only 14 years old, is already verbally committed to attend Ohio State University in 2017.

We’ll also catch up with a few local athletes who spend their days on the lake. Bass fishing has been an IHSA sport since 2009, and for the past few years, Naperville high schools have made a splash at the state finals.

Everywhere you turn, World Cup fever is all around you. Find out how the worldwide soccer tournament has a local effect.

Friend, teacher and coach. Earlier last month Michael Wegrzyn passed away at the age of 32. Hear the story of his 10-year career with Indian Prairie School District 204, his move to Metea Valley High School in 2009, and the impact he left on The Tribe, the girls lacrosse co-op between Waubonsie Valley and Metea Valley.

“The Home Stretch” premiered July 7. For additional air times, visit NCTV17.com.
