Local photos sought for history album

To celebrate its centennial in 2015, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is compiling a special online history album and invites residents to bring photos and written memories to the project kickoff at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at its headquarters office in Danada Forest Preserve at 3S580 Naperville Road.

Between 6:30 and 9 p.m. employees and volunteers will collect stories and help visitors add their photos to the district’s historypin.com account. For this initial part of the project, the focus is on summers from 2000 and earlier.

Registration isn’t required, but anyone who plans on attending is encouraged to contact the district at 630-462-8714 or educate@dupageforest.org in advance so it can arrange for equipment as best as possible.

DuPage forest preserve fans will be able to add to the collection throughout the year, so anyone who can’t attend the kickoff but would like to contribute to the project should contact the district for details.

“DuPage County’s forest preserves have been a part of so many people’s lives over the years, and we want to preserve those memories and tell the story of how those people and places have changed over the past century,” says Chris Gingrich, who works in the Education Office for the Forest Preserve District.
