Golf Notes: 40th Naperville City Men’s Championship this weekend

Frankfort’s Glenn Przybylski returns to Naperville this weekend to defend his title in the 40th Annual City Men’s Championship.

The 36-hole event will be contested over two days with all competitors playing 18 holes Saturday at Naperbrook Golf Course and finishing with 18 Sunday at Springbrook Golf Course.

In previous years, the field has been split with half playing each course each day.

“We’ve had a drop in participation this year so we’ll play the first round at Naperbrook with players teeing off from 6 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Saturday,” said Springbrook pro Mike Lyzun.

The championship flight, for players with a 0-4 handicap, will be decided by gross score while the remaining flights will be scored net, using handicaps.

The 47-year-old Przybylski shot 1-over 145 last year with rounds of 73 and 72 to edge Cody Sundberg (146) and two-time defending champ Ryan Miller (147) for the title.

He’s been having another good amateur season, winning the 23rd and final Illinois State Am Public Links Championship in mid-May at Harborside International Golf Center with two rounds of even par 72.

It marked the second time he’s won that event, which will be replaced next year by a CDGA Mid-Am Match Play Championship.

Last week, Przybylski competed in the 84th Illinois State Amateur at Cantigny in Wheaton and tied for 19th with a four-round total of 297.

Tee times for Saturday’s first round can be found on the golfnaperville.org website.
