NCTV17’s Naperville Notables features Ray McGury

Naperville is home to many recreational amenities from Centennial Beach and the Riverwalk, to playgrounds, athletic fields and nature trails.

In the latest episode of “Naperville Notables,” meet the man in charge of the Naperville Park District and learn how he continues to maintain its status as one of the best in the country. This month, NCTV17’s Executive Director Liz Spencer sits down with Ray McGury, the executive director of the Naperville Park District.

As it’s leader, McGury is responsible for directing the operations and maintenance of more than 140 parks and facilities across 2,500-plus acres, and providing more than 1,400 recreational, arts, athletic and environmental programs for all ages.

During the hourlong interview, McGury shares his philosophy on the importance of transparency in the Naperville Park District and how it’s his responsibility to Naperville residents to provide recreation and park experiences that enhance the quality of life for our community.

McGury and Spencer also discuss the upcoming Indoor Activity Center project. The center will serve as a community gathering place for all ages and abilities to enjoy a wide range of indoor recreation activities and sports, as well as fitness and wellness programs. It is expected to open in 2016.

Before joining the Naperville Park District in 2008, McGury’s career was in law enforcement. He spent more than 20 years with the Naperville Police Department, retiring with the rank of captain.

Learn more about McGury and his passion for community recreation during “Naperville Notables” at 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 23. For more air times, visit NCTV17.com.
