Heads up, bakers: it’s time to make pie.
Naper Settlement will be hosting an apple pie contest as part of its Hometown Picnic festivities on Saturday. Interested bakers must act fast, however: contest entries are being accepted only through Wednesday.
Pies submitted for judging must include apples as their primary ingredient, although additional fruits can be added. There is no requirement stipulating the style of crust to be made. All pies must be dropped off at the Pre-Emption House Visitor’s Center by noon on Saturday, accompanied by index cards indicating the type of pie (single- or double-crust), along with the baker’s name, phone number and email. Entries also can be accompanied by the pie recipe, but it isn’t required.
The Settlement also will provide a place to share memories or stories about making or eating apple pies with loved ones or for special occasions.
Judging will take place at 1 p.m., with criteria based on appearance, filling taste, crust taste and overall impression.
The first-, second- and third-place winners will be announced at 2:30 p.m. at the Paw Paw Post Office porch. Awards will go to the top finishers, who must be present to accept them. The winners also will be photographed, with the images and news of their victories posted on the Settlement’s Facebook page.
All contestants will receive free entry to the Hometown Picnic.
To register, call 630-305-5252 or send an email to email@example.com that includes the name and type (e.g. single or double crust) of pie, the baker’s name, phone and email.Tags: Hometown Picnic, Naper Settlement
