Police Blotter: Phone scammer claims to be IRS agent

These are incidents reported by the Naperville Police Department. Where charges have been filed, the report includes when and where the suspect was stopped or taken into custody and the nature of the charges.

Friday, Aug. 15

Telephone scam: A resident of the 1700 block of Windward Avenue reported about 1:17 p.m., telephone call received from woman who identified herself as being IRS agent, “but soon into the conversation, (resident) knew the call to be a scam;” no money or personal information lost.

Illegal dumping: Between 3:33 p.m. Aug. 13 and 3:33 p.m. today, five large mounds of dirt and drainage tile and six or seven mounds of “poor-quality mulch” dumped in parking lot of foreclosed property near North Aurora Road and Fairway Drive; removal cost to property owner estimated at $1,000.

Suspended license: Tequita V. White, 24, 500 block of Fessler Avenue; 5:01 p.m. near Aurora Avenue and Fort Hill Drive; charged with driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance.

Burglary: A 52-year-old woman reported about 5:09 p.m., beer stolen from refrigerator inside open garage of home on 300 block of Avena Circle.

Theft: Kenyata A. Coakley, 19, 300 block of Danbury Drive; 5:20 p.m. at Walmart SuperCenter, 2552 W. 75th St.; charged with theft by deception from Aug. 3, when $100 was stolen from cash register.

Hit and run: About 6:07 p.m., unidentified motorist caused three-vehicle traffic crash near Ogden Avenue and River Road before fleeing from scene.

Obstructing identification: Steven T. Simmons, 20, 30W000 block of Valencia Court; 8:32 p.m. near Ogden Avenue and Valley Drive; charged with obstructing identification; also taken into custody on four arrest warrants; companion Carlos S. Romero, 19, 25W000 block of Keswick Lane, charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to wear a seat belt.

Property damage: Between 9:30 and 10 p.m., unspecified number of teenagers damaged mailbox and house on 2200 block of Joyce Lane.

Vandalism: Sometime before 11:19 p.m., “DEAD Imma fiend” spray-painted in black on fire door of unidentified business on 700 block of South Route 59.

Fake ID: Andrea M. Alletto, 18, Willowbrook; 11:21 p.m. at The Lantern, 8 W. Chicago Ave.; charged with possession of false identification card.

Saturday, Aug. 16

Warrant: Ermila Perez, 31, 1500 block of Country Lakes Drive; 12:01 a.m. near Fairway and Campbell drives; taken into custody on $5,000 DuPage County arrest warrant.

Driving under the influence: Marius G. Strizu, 36, Woodridge; 1:23 a.m. near Hobson Road and Washington Street; charged with DUI and speeding.

DUI: Hasan L. Simba, 25, 1600 block of Estate Circle; 2:29 a.m. near 75th Street and Wehrli Road; charged with two counts DUI and one count each driving without front or rear license plate or permit and speeding.

DUI: Esperanza Rodriguez-Cardenas, 34, Aurora; 3:52 a.m. near Ogden Avenue and North Aurora Road; charged with two counts DUI and one count improper lane use.

Unlicensed driver: Salatiel Alcala-Rodriguez, 27, Aurora; 7:54 a.m. at the Naperville police station, 1350 Aurora Ave.; charged with driving without a license, leaving scene of accident involving vehicle damage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident/driving too fast for conditions.

Theft: Between 9 a.m. Aug. 15 and 9 a.m. today, flat screen television set stolen from room at Extended Stay America Chicago-Naperville, 1575 Bond St.; lock for TV set later found to have malfunctioned.

Vehicular burglary: A 52-year-old man reported between 12:30 and 10 a.m., vehicle burglarized while parked outside home on 600 block of North Webster Street.

Theft: Sometime between 8:15 and 10:21 a.m., two chains stolen from south driveway entrance to unidentified property on 1000 block of Aurora Avenue.

Suspicious vehicle: About 1:31 p.m., police investigated report of “suspicious car driving around neighborhood” on and near 2800 block of Cantore Road.

Aggravated DUI: Richard E. Simmons, 63, Bellwood; 1:34 p.m. near Diehl Road and Route 59; charged with aggravated DUI and improper lane use.
