Naperville resident James Holzhauer, a graduate of Naperville North Class of 2001 will compete on Game Show Network’s “The Chase” next Tuesday, 2 September, at 7PM CDT.
On the show, James is paired with two complete strangers who team up to face, “The Beast.” “The Beast” is Mark Labbett, a 6 foot 6, 370 pound mathematician with degrees from Oxford and Exeter, with an IQ of 155. He hosted a wildly successful British game show, which spun off this American version.
In the first round of “The Chase”, the contestants have one minute to answer as many trivia questions as possible to build cash ($5,000 per question) to face the Beast. Then, the Beast tempts them with the opportunity to bank even more cash if they will risk getting even closer to him before the start of the chase.
In round 2, the the Beast “chases” the contestant in a head-to-head matchup to see if the contestant can bank their money before being caught. If they get caught in this chase, the game is over for that contestant. If the contestant survives, he moves on to The Final Chase.
In The Final Chase, the Beast competes against remaining contestants in a 2-minute all-or-nothing race for all the money banked by the contestants.
James and his wife Melissa Holzhauer, also of Naperville, flew out to Los Angeles for the show. Though they can’t discuss what will happen on the show next week, the trailer for next week’s episode on GSN features James, and asks if the Beast has finally met his match. It also shows that over $100,000 in potential winnings at stake.Tags: Naperville North
