Mariano’s Fresh Market will open a grocery store in a Naperville shopping center space formerly occupied by Dominick’s:
The fast-growing grocery chain signed a lease to open a grocery in a former Dominick’s in the Fox Run Square shopping center at 1212 S. Naper Blvd. in the western suburb, a Mariano’s spokesman confirmed in an email.
Since Safeway Inc. pulled the plug on the Dominick’s chain last year, Mariano’s has emerged as the most aggressive grocery operator in the Chicago area. It’s feasted on the empty ex-Dominick’s stores.
The firm announced late last year it would take over 11 former Dominick’s in the city and suburbs but hadn’t previously found a place in Naperville, considered one of the stronger-performing suburban retail areas.
