Seriously! It is an aromatherapeutic treatment mostly used on light colored pets to help remove tear staining, and is currently offered at UpScale Tail in Naperville.
The high-end salon run by Kendra Otto and fellow groomer Jennie Krezel, both nationally ranked and award winning pet groomers, opened in November 2013, and offers a variety of add on services, such as the blueberry facial.
“We use the product by South Bark,” says Otto of the tearless face wash that cleanses and brightens pet’s faces, and sometimes even the remaining fur.
Tearing, often caused by a diet high in grain, affects all dog breeds, and even cats, but is more visible on light-colored fur. Short-nosed breeds such as Pekingese, Maltese, Shih-tzu and Shar-Peis are especially prone to tearing due to shallow eye sockets. “But we even see Labs needing the treatments,” says Krezel.
The wash is applied to the face and soaks as the groomers continue with the rest of the shampooing and treatment. “It smells like lavender and chamomile and is very relaxing,” Otto describes.
“You can use it as much as needed, but we recommend to use it at least every four weeks,” adds Krezel of the add-on treatment that costs $10.
