An illegal immigrant who last lived in Naperville was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years in prison for sexually assaulting an underage female relative.
Alejandro A. Garduno, 58, faces deportation to Mexico upon completion of his term in the Illinois prison system. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have placed a “no bond” hold on Garduno, who continued to be held Tuesday in DuPage County Jail in Wheaton.
Paul Darrah, spokesman for DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin, confirmed Circuit Court Judge George J. Bakalis on Tuesday sentenced Garduno on a felony charge of criminal sexual assault of a family member under the age of 18.
Garduno last lived on the 1200 block of Whispering Hills Drive, in the Estes Park area of far west-central Naperville. He worked at a Naperville retirement home.
A grand jury in June 2009 indicted him on 11 counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and criminal sexual asaault. He was jailed on $1.5 million bail.
Garduno was charged with the February 2006 attack on a 15-year-old relative who was visiting DuPage County from Mexico. He gave authorities a videotaped interview and confession following his arrest.
Court records indicated Garduno had no significant criminal record in DuPage County prior to the sex assault.
