After eating our fill of holiday delights, roasts, turkeys, ducks and such, it is high time to treat our palate to something different: whole lobster, homemade.

Fresh and affordable live lobsters can be found at Super H-Mart, the Asian supermarket at 1295 E. Ogden Ave., just shy of Naperville Road.

Upon entering this huge store filled with everything a well-stocked Asian kitchen could need, head to the back right corner to view the lobster and live fish in recently installed tanks. As your gaze glides left, it will take in an impressive seafood bar, featuring live oysters, a variety of fresh fish, shrimp and other delicacies.

Huge water tanks are refilled with live lobsters every Tuesday and Friday.

“We stock 2,000 pounds of lobster every week,” says Steve Lee, store manager since it opened five years ago.

He adds that they mostly sell Maine lobsters. At $ 6.99 per pound, with each lobster weighing in at about 1.5 pounds, it is an affordable luxury.

Lobsters can be prepared many ways, and most recipes are suitable for even the novice cook. A variety of recipes can be found online posted by esteemed TV cooks such as Martha Stewart and Paula Deen, opting either to boiling or steaming the whole lobster. As the aspiring lobster cook grows in confidence, whole grilled lobster will delight neighbors, friends and family.

H-Mart originally opened in New Jersey three decades ago and now has more than 40 branches in several states, but only two Illinois locations, Naperville and Niles.
