When dentist Daniel Pope got out of his car, he knew the office of Dr. Arnold DeAngelis at 445 W. Jackson Ave., suite 104, was the perfect spot for his practice.
“As I stepped out of the car, a clear blue sky, spring in the air, and then the bells from the Centennial tower were ringing,” Pope says. “I clicked with the doctor right away. It was just meant to be.”
Pope moved in to the picturesque spot last April. DeAngelis had served the community for more than 30 years.
“This is a great community. We want to bring honesty and choices to our patients,” says Pope, who remodeled the office space to be reflective of the cheery atmosphere he finds important. Convenient parking and walking distance amenities are an added advantage to the location.
Pope Family Dental offers services from preventative to aesthetic and cosmetic, as well as restorative dentistry. Pope also will perform oral cancer screenings as a standard service.
The office also brings in two hygienists on a regular basis. One is Spanish-English bilingual.
“Especially during school holidays, I want to be able to schedule extra appointments for our school children,” Pope says.
A former Marine and passionate supporter of veterans through his work and private life, Pope has been practicing dentistry for 14 years and is excited to serve Naperville’s family-oriented community. Most insurance is accepted.
The father of three young children, and longtime DuPage County resident, he also has been a den leader for the Cub Scouts for the past five years.
Gourmet burgers
Burger restaurant Tom & Eddie’s opened its fifth Chicagoland location at 1516 N. Naper Blvd. in the Tower Crossing shopping plaza, just south of I-88.
“We put good taste in everything we do,” says Cherle Link, chief marketing officer. “Tom & Eddie’s combines fine dining in a fast casual way.”
Nine signature burgers are less than $5, and a build-your-own sandwich comes in five easy steps. There also are three lean and green burger options as an alternate to beef or chicken.
“Everything is made in house, is fresh, and we do not use preservatives,” Link adds.
Tom & Eddie’s is big on supporting educational programs, and is donating 10 percent of all net proceeds to the DuPage Children’s Museum. Educational toys and books will keep restless children entertained in one of the many family-sized booths.
Domestic beers and a selection of wines starting at $5.99 per glass make this modern yet warm restaurant a casual dinner destination. Also ask for their separate catering menu and in-house party hosting options.
The two owners only known as Tom and Eddie have a long history of friendship and work relationship, and bring years of McDonald’s management experience to this restaurant chain.
“They put weeks of testing (in) their menu at College of DuPage, and also have ‘The High School Burger Challenge’ and ‘Burgers & Badges,’” says Link of the owners’ dedication to enhancing the community.
Originally opening in Lombard in 2010, this fast-growing restaurant chain has big ambitions, looking to franchise nationwide and internationally.
Blast! on Ogden
Earlier this month Blast! turned on its power to offer fitness fans an alternate gym experience at 790 Royal Saint George Drive, suite 139a, just off Ogden Avenue.
“We are a national chain of low-cost, high-value and affordable fitness destinations,” says Jennie Meyer, regional manager.
Fees run at $10 per month for limited membership and $19.99 for the platinum membership, including unlimited classes. They currently are waving $99 enrollment fees.
With 60 pieces of cardio equipment spread over 20,000-square-feet, Blast! also offers a private women’s area and free babysitting.
