Police Blotter: Cigarette starts mulch fire burning home

Thursday, May 8

Driving under the influence: Jacob B. Welbes, 26, North Aurora; 1:05 a.m. near North Aurora Road and Genesee Drive; charged with DUI.

Suspicious incident: A 77-year-old woman reported about 2:30 a.m., unknown male or female rang her doorbell, after entering back yard of home on 1600 block of Killdeer Drive.

No insurance: About 6:59 a.m., unidentified motorist charged with driving without insurance, following two-vehicle traffic crash near Gowdey Road and Route 59.

Traffic crash: About 7:04 a.m., four-vehicle, chain-reaction traffic crash occurred near 87th Street and Book Road; unidentified motorist charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident/driving too fast for conditions.

Trespassing: Jason A. Brown, 20, hometown not provided; 10:15 a.m. on 300 block of Pearson Circle; charged with criminal trespass to residence.

Shoplifting: Manager of unidentified business on 200 block of South Main Street reported between 2:30 and 3 p.m., four gold bracelets stolen.

Warrant: Anthony L. Lake, 42, Carol Stream; 4:48 p.m. near Bayhill Avenue and Naper Boulevard; taken into custody on Kendall County arrest warrant.

Fire department assistance: About 7 p.m., police provided assistance to Naperville Fire Department firefighters at home on 900 block of Darius Lane, after discarded cigarette set mulch on fire, with flames then melting siding of home.

Burglary: A 38-year-old man reported sometime between April 10 and 7:37 p.m. today, basement storage unit burglarized in building on 1100 block of West Ogden Avenue; report provided no further information.

Harassment: Michael J. Lamb, 25, hometown not provided; 8:02 p.m. on 2500 block of Durango Lane; charged with telephone harassment.

Information for police: A 43-year-old resident of 1000 block of North Mill Street reported between 3:15 and 8:15 p.m., “possible fraudulent activity (resulted) from a person who changed passwords on her computer.”

Theft: A 27-year-old man reported between 8:33 and 9:30 p.m., theft occurred at XSport Fitness, 2780 Fitness Drive; report provided no further information.

Friday, May 9

Shoplifting: About 10:12 a.m., unidentified female issued municipal ticket for retail theft, after stealing $54.05 worth of merchandise from unidentified store on 2500 block of West 75th Street.

Vandalism: A 34-year-old man reported between 10 p.m. May 8 and 10:30 a.m., several dents were put in front quarter panel of vehicle parked on 1400 block of Fairway Drive.

Vehicle burglary: A 49-year-old woman reported between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., unspecified number of compact discs and loose change stolen from vehicle parked in lot of Walgreens, 688 Amersale Drive.

Vehicle theft: A 44-year-old man reported sometime before 5:56 p.m., vehicle stolen while parked on 800 block of East Ogden Avenue; report provided no further information.

Marijuana manufacturing: Alexander T. Goulder, 20, 2700 block of Breckenridge Lane; 8:41 p.m. on 4100 block of Easy Circle; charged with the manufacture or delivery of 30-500 grams of marijuana and improper parking.

Fleeing police: About 9:02 p.m., unidentified motorist fled in vehicle from police, following traffic stop on 111th Street just west of 248th Avenue.

Theft: About 9:20 p.m., unidentified male or female stole leather booklet from unidentified restaurant on 800 block of East Ogden Avenue.

Theft: Paul E. Hawkins, 29, Marseilles; 10:30 p.m. at Crosstown Pub & Grill, 909 E. Ogden Ave.; charged with theft and violating order of protection.
