Three suburban men have been arrested in a drug bust that began after five pounds of marijuana were delivered to a house in Naperville.
Danial M. Waseem, 24, Naperville; Awais M. Khan, 27, Des Plaines; Nickolas J. Gelardi, 18, Bolingbrook, were arrested in the case. Waseem and Khan have been charged with felony trafficking in marijuana and felony manufacture/delivery of marijuana. Gelardi was charged with felony manufacture/delivery of marijuana.
On Wednesday, inspectors from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and members of the Naperville Police Department’s Special Operations Group conducted a narcotics investigation in various locations in Will, DuPage, and Cook counties. Postal inspectors had intercepted a suspicious package that they determined was five pounds of marijuana, being delivered to a residence on the 800 block of Pueblo Court in Naperville.
Members from both agencies delivered the package to the residence. Waseem and Khan were seen leaving the residence with the marijuana. They allegedly drove to Gelardi’s house in Bolingbrook.
Police said the three were conducting a drug transaction when they were taken into custody without incident.
In addition to the original package with marijuana, additional large amounts of marijuana, currency and related evidence were recovered from Waseem’s car and from Gelardi’s residence, police said.
Prior to the arrests occurring, Waseem and Khan were observed making “hand to hand” drug transactions with buyers in Naperville area business parking lots, police said.
The three suspects were charged in Will County, with potential additional charges pending in DuPage and Cook counties.
