The fourth of seven Georgia residents accused of participating in an identity theft and forgery ring Naperville police said was working for organized crime bosses in Eastern Europe has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
Alicia Y. Jordan remains in DuPage County Jail in Wheaton, and is awaiting transfer into the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Jordan, 39, of Clarkston, Ga., was convicted of a felony charge of continuing financial crimes enterprise for her role in the ring, which police broke up last fall.
DuPage County Circuit Court Judge Daniel P. Guerin on Wednesday sentenced Jordan to prison, according to court records. Seven other charges that included conspiracy to commit a financial crime, conspiracy to commit money laundering, identity theft and forgery were dismissed.
Jordan and six other men and women were arrested on Oct. 15, 2012, after they allegedly set up what police described as a “laboratory” in a room in a hotel on Naperville’s north side. Computers, printers and bogus documents used in making counterfeit identification were seized from the lab, a police spokesman said last year.
An officer who was working near the hotel noted suspicious activity on the part of at least one of the suspects in the days preceding the arrests. More than 50 illegal money transfers were allegedly made by members of the ring, the spokesman said. Detectives also recovered 62 counterfeit identification cards and numerous forged passports.
Jordan and her associates were working for an Eastern European crime group, the spokesman said. They moved from hotel to hotel during the scheme, which involved dozens of victims from Naperville and other western suburbs.
Ring members Decopeland S. Harris, 42, of Conley, Ga.; Shanekie D. Head, 29, of Scottsdale, Ga.; and Darrick L. Jordan, 24, of Decatur, Ga., have already been convicted. All served jail time for their roles in the scam.
Still awaiting trial in the case are Sierra S. Chambers, 26, of Decatur, Ga.; Jacqueline C. Gibson, 47, also of Decatur, Ga.; and Rickey L. Gibson, 44, of Atlanta.
