One of the most acclaimed shows in the history of Broadway is coming to Crystal Lake. “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” is set to open at Raue Center For The Arts on October 25.
Based on a 19th century fictional character, “Sweeney Todd” tells the story of a barber driven to exact a grisly vengeance on the high-class London society that framed him and sent him into exile for 15 years. After opening a barbershop, he slits the throats of his customers—then sends their bodies to the shop next door to be cooked into pies.
The musical, which features music and lyrics by Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim, has been revived numerous times since its original debut in 1979. It was adapted into an award-winning film in 2007 and has won its own fair share of awards over the years. Even if you’ve seen the film, however, there’s no substitute for seeing the live show.
When you come to Raue Center For The Arts, you can see shows like “Sweeney Todd” in an intimate setting, where you can hear the music as it was meant to be appreciated. Instead of squinting to see the actors or straining to hear the music, you can sit and enjoy the show in comfort and style.
