Special Talents America welcomed 14 contestants from Illinois, Indiana and Michigan to the almost sold-out concert Nov. 4 in Wentz Hall on the campus of North Central College.
Sponsored by the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association, the competition was an opportunity for talented children and adults who happen to have disabilities to perform. Their performances included singing, light saber dancing, harp and banjo playing.
The three top winners were:
First place — Breanna Bogucki sang a captivating rendition of Taylor Swift’s “Mean.” Breanna is from Cary, Ill.
Second place — Christina Honeywell sang “I dreamed a dream” from Les Miserables. Christina is from Vernon Hills, Ill.
Third place — Mia Strayer played “The Prayer” on the harp. Mia is from Cherry Valley, Ill.
As a surprise award, announced at the end of the competition, the winner earned a professional recording session courtesy of Jim Peterik, a Grammy-Award winning songwriter, performer and record producer.
