Dogs and cats need Naperville homes

Updated: August 4, 2011 4:20PM

Candy, an 8-month-old Chihuahua/Shiba Inu mix, keeps herself busy by supervising the other dogs and making sure no one gets into trouble. She also keeps an eye on the cats. Kids in her new home should be older, because she’d probably boss around the little ones.

Carlyle, a 3-year-old front-declawed cat, has no idea how a handsome guy such as himself ended up here. One day he was living the good life, sleeping in a nice warm bed at night, but then he found himself out on the street.

More dogs and cats are available at the Naperville Area Humane Society. All the animals have been examined for health and temperament, started on their vaccines and microchipped. They are spayed or neutered at adoption. Hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Visit at 1620 W. Diehl Road in Naperville or online at www.napervilleareahumanesociety.org.

ADOPT

Chelsea: This cat turned 1 in February, so it has to be her way or no way! This toddler will love a new family to pieces, seek out lots and lots of attention, and beg for petting all day long. She’d really enjoy the opportunity to sit on a lap during this new football season. She loves toys so she’ll entertain herself at home alone.

Lulu:

No dog loves people as much as Lulu does. She is 2 1/2-year-old Lhasa Apso and Pekingese mix who just loves to be around people. She is more active than your typical Pekingese and will run around the backyard like she’s out to win some sort of race. She has acclimated to the other dogs in her foster home, but is still not the best with the cats. She will cheer you up as she rolls around on the floor, throws her toys in the air and then pounces on them for a more dramatic effect.
